Nine matches across four of Europe’s biggest leagues run from Saturday afternoon through to late on Sunday night, and these weekend football predictions cover every one of them with a market, a price and a reason. All kick-off times below are SAST, so South African punters can see at a glance where the day actually starts: Liverpool against Fulham at 16:00 on Saturday 12 September 2026, and the card closes with Real Sociedad against Atlético Madrid at 21:00 on Sunday 13 September. The headline fixture sits in between – the Manchester derby at Old Trafford, 17:30 SAST on Sunday.
The nine calls come from three analysts. Sports data managers Oleksandr Vaskov and Oleksandr Halian contributed three each, and TipsGG sports and esports specialist Oleksii Svyrydov supplied the other three. Two of the fixtures carry a second, higher-risk angle on top of the main selection. Prices run from 1.63 at the short end to 3.11 on the boldest alternative, with seven of the nine main picks bunched between 1.63 and 2.02.
One theme ties most of the card together: midweek European football. Eight of these eighteen clubs played a continental tie in the days before this round, and the knock-on effects – tired legs at the back, rotated line-ups, less pressing in the last half hour – push the analysis towards goals markets rather than straight match results. That is why five of the nine selections are goal lines or both-teams-to-score variants rather than a home or away win.

Liverpool vs Fulham prediction: goals at both ends at Anfield
Liverpool have played four competitive matches under Andoni Iraola and scored exactly two goals in every single one of them. That is a remarkable level of consistency in attack, and a useful anchor for any goals market. The problem is the other end. The defensive leaks that ran through last season have not been sealed, and two of those four games finished level as a result.
Momentum is still with the hosts. Back-to-back wins, one of them against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, have given Anfield reason for optimism heading into this one.
Fulham also appointed a Spanish head coach this summer, but for Álvaro Arbeloa this is a first job in England and the start has been rough: seven conceded in three rounds and three defeats. The mitigating detail is that nobody has beaten Fulham by more than a single goal, which tells you they stay in games rather than collapse.
Vaskov’s read is that Fulham regularly cause Liverpool problems and usually find the net against them, but they collect their points at Craven Cottage. Recent trips to Anfield have almost all ended in defeat, and there is little here to suggest a different pattern.
Prediction: Liverpool win or draw & both teams to score – 1.80
Tottenham vs Everton prediction: the visitors to avoid defeat
Round 4 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pits a home side still without a win – two defeats and a draw – against a Merseyside team that has not lost yet, with one win and two draws.
Spurs spent significantly over the summer after a poor campaign, but the money has not translated into a fast start. Important arrivals came in, yet the club also lost several key men in Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero and Djed Spence. Immediate results from a squad rebuilt that heavily were always unlikely; the strategy may pay off in time, but for now the London side sit in the bottom half exactly as they did last season.
Everton opened with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and then showed genuine resilience in the two games that followed, turning matches around late away at Manchester United and at home against Bournemouth. That is the profile of a side in form.
Halian’s view is that Tottenham remain a team capable of surprises, though most of those surprises have been negative lately, while Everton are playing better football with more stability. He expects both trends to hold: the hosts still unable to win, the visitors not losing.
Prediction: Everton double chance (2X) & under 3.5 goals – 2.29
Paris FC vs Lyon prediction: goals and cards at Jean-Bouin
Ligue 1 Round 4 at the Stade Jean-Bouin brings together the sides sitting second and third, which is the first thing worth noting about an ambitious Paris FC hosting a club with far more history behind it.
Paris FC rebuilt aggressively this summer, spending more than €66 million on new arrivals – a clear statement that they intend to compete at the top of Ligue 1. Head coach Liam Rosenior also arrives with a strong reputation from his time at Strasbourg.
Lyon came within one match of a Champions League return before losing at home to Fenerbahçe in the decisive tie, so it is the Europa League again this season. Their form has been volatile: across seven matches, five saw both teams score and the other two saw only one side find the net.
Halian expects an ambitious team meeting a traditional heavyweight in unstable form, and reads it as a fierce, foul-heavy contest in which both sides score. That second element is why he adds a cards line as a separate angle.
Prediction: Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals – 1.86
Alternative: Over 4.0 total cards – 1.72
Sunderland vs Arsenal prediction: over 2.5 at the Stadium of Light
Sunderland have opened the season in solid, stubborn fashion. Four points, including two away wins, is a perfectly acceptable return, and the signings made late in the transfer window give them more room to handle three competitions at once.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have had everything go their way and have won every match since the turn of the year. The game against Napoli was under their control throughout, and scoring only once away from home barely registered as a concern given the result.
Vaskov notes that the Black Cats have not lost their main asset – defensive discipline – but points out that it rarely saves them against this opponent. Arsenal usually leave the Stadium of Light as winners, often with at least two goals, and they are not short of attacking options right now. With fatigue and injuries in the home backline, one or two mistakes look likely.
Prediction: Over 2.5 goals – 2.02
Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano prediction: back Güler for a goal or assist
Real Madrid opened their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 home win over Inter, which cleared the air after a 0-1 defeat to Betis, even if the performance was not as convincing as the supporters wanted. José Mourinho tried a high press for the first time this season and it worked quickly: Kylian Mbappé opened the scoring from a Brahim Díaz pass, and Federico Valverde doubled the lead after the Inter goalkeeper lost the ball.
The confidence did not last. Madrid ceded the initiative, let Inter get close to their goal repeatedly, and needed Thibaut Courtois to be outstanding again. Inter pulled one back and the closing minutes were tense. Beyond the two goals, though, the hosts created enough to have scored four or five – finishing was the weak link once more.
Rayo Vallecano finally landed a first LaLiga win of the season, 3-2 over Racing in a chaotic game. Sergio Camello scored twice and Andrei Rațiu added the other. The defensive picture is the worry: they frequently concede first and hand out chances in volume – two conceded against Sevilla, five against Barcelona – and two red cards last time out underlined how disorganised they can become.
Svyrydov accepts that head-to-head history shows Rayo can occasionally cause Madrid problems, but sees the current gap in quality and form as too wide. He identifies Arda Güler as the engine of the Madrid attack and expects him to be decisive again here, which makes the player market the better value than the match result.
Prediction: Arda Güler to score or assist – 2.35
Le Mans vs Lens prediction: both teams to score at the MMArena
Le Mans are back in Ligue 1 for the first time since 2009/10, and they host the club that was arguably last season’s biggest overachiever – Lens pushed Paris Saint-Germain for long stretches of the title race.
The promoted side have given their supporters entertainment rather than points. In three Ligue 1 matches they have scored and conceded in every game, with only the most recent one finishing under 2.5 goals. Two draws and a defeat leaves them still hunting a first win.
Three days before this fixture, Lens were away in the Czech capital for a difficult Champions League night against Slavia, and won it 3-2 with a goal deep in stoppage time. An excellent result, but a draining one for a squad without much depth.
Halian’s logic: the hosts like an open, end-to-end game, Lens are physically spent, and their coach will be forced into rotation – all of which points to goals. He considers the home side avoiding defeat worth a speculative add-on alongside both teams scoring.
Prediction: Both teams to score – yes – 1.65
Alternative: Le Mans double chance (1X) & both teams to score – 3.11
Manchester derby prediction: under 3.5 goals at Old Trafford
United come into the derby in good spirits after a comfortable win over Sabah at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes is in excellent form as the main creator, while Bryan Mbeumo and Marcus Rashford keep finding space behind opposition defences.
The warning sign came in Round 3. Benjamin Šeško scored in the 88th minute against Everton and United still failed to win, throwing the lead away late for a 2-2 draw. That is the core problem with this team: when a match stops going their way, they cannot close it out. Given they were talked about in pre-season as Arsenal’s main title rival, that inexperience could hurt badly.
City arrive as favourites and on a run. Enzo Maresca’s side have four straight wins in all competitions, including a 2-0 away victory at Porto in the Champions League. Erling Haaland’s cold efficiency is the key factor – another brace, at a startling conversion rate – while Enzo Fernández has settled quickly and added variety and control in midfield. The defence has tightened too, with clean sheets in each of the last two competitive matches.
Svyrydov’s point is that Manchester derby results have become very hard to call in recent years, with United often going in as underdogs and still suppressing their neighbours. After the European exertions he expects a grinding contest, and therefore not many goals.
Prediction: Under 3.5 goals – 1.63
Napoli vs Bologna prediction: the hosts to score twice or more
Napoli beat Genoa with confidence, but have since lost two league games in a row and threw away a late lead against Inter. The Champions League defeat to Arsenal raised further questions: at home, the Serie A runners-up were too passive and barely threatened the visiting goal.
Bologna took their first point of the season in a draw with Sassuolo after a flat start. The defeats to Lazio and Atalanta were not entirely self-inflicted – Domenico Tedesco’s team created chances but could not convert them. With the goal drought now over, the attack has fresh life.
Vaskov’s reasoning is straightforward: Napoli have historically performed well at home against Bologna, the visitors are unstable, and absentees may stop them building on that first draw. Rather than back a scoreline, he prefers the home team total.
Prediction: Napoli team total over 1.5 goals – 1.98
Real Sociedad vs Atlético Madrid prediction: goals at both ends
Real Sociedad arrive on the back of a nerve-shredding 3-2 away win at Elche. The Basque side led 2-0 before Jon Martín was sent off and Elche levelled. Down to ten men, Luka Sučić settled it in the 90th minute with a breakaway finish. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s players showed real character and are steadily climbing out of the crisis their opening defeats created – though a key defender is suspended for this one, which is an added complication against Madrid opposition.
Atlético are under heavy pressure after two consecutive defeats. A 0-3 hammering at Athletic Bilbao in LaLiga was followed by a 1-2 loss to Liverpool in their Champions League opener. At Anfield, Julián Álvarez opened the scoring after a neat combination with Marcos Llorente, and then Atlético lost control of the game completely and were turned over.
The curious subplot: the man who supplied that assist may not even start. Diego Simeone hinted as much in his pre-match press conference, and when a compatriot coach stops backing you publicly, the clouds tend to gather.
Svyrydov expects both teams to find the net. The hosts are potent in attack at home, and the visitors – slump or no slump – are the stronger and better-organised side overall.
Prediction: Both teams to score & over 2.5 goals – 1.94
What the prices tell you
Seven of the nine main selections are priced between 1.63 and 2.02. The two outliers are Arda Güler to score or assist at 2.35 and Everton’s double chance combination at 2.29, which is the longest of the main picks. The two alternative angles sit at 1.72 and 3.11.
That bunching matters. Combining short-priced goal lines changes the maths of a return very quickly, and it also multiplies the ways a slip can fail. Four legs at an average of 1.80 returns roughly 10.5 times the stake, but every additional leg is another independent chance to lose the whole thing. Work out what any multiple actually pays in rand before you place it, rather than after.
Timing for South African viewers
The Saturday programme is unusually friendly for a South African schedule. Liverpool vs Fulham starts at 16:00 SAST, Tottenham vs Everton follows at 18:30, and then three matches overlap in the 20:45–21:00 window: Paris FC vs Lyon, Sunderland vs Arsenal and Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano. If you are building a Saturday multiple, that overlap is worth planning around, because you will be watching three games at once.
Sunday is more spread out. Le Mans vs Lens at 17:15 SAST, the Manchester derby at 17:30, Napoli vs Bologna at 18:00 and Real Sociedad vs Atlético Madrid closing the weekend at 21:00.

Betradar verdict
The shape of this card is clear: back goals, not results. Five of the nine selections are goal lines or both-teams-to-score variants, and that is a direct response to eight of these clubs having played European football days earlier. The two selections we would single out are Everton’s double chance at 2.29, where a winless Tottenham are being priced on reputation rather than current form, and under 3.5 goals in the Manchester derby at 1.63 – short, but derbies after European weeks rarely turn into shootouts.
