Who runs Betway South Africa, and under which licence
The company behind the South African site is Raging River Trading (Pty) Ltd, trading as Betway (South Africa). It holds a bookmaker licence from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board, number 10181496-012. We took that from the National Gambling Board’s verified operators register, which is the regulator’s own list rather than anybody’s summary of it.
Here is why that matters. Five different Betway licence numbers are in circulation across South African affiliate sites: -004, -006, -010, -011 and -012. We searched all 3,008 rows of the register for each one. Only -012 exists. The other four return nothing, so a reader who copies one of them into the regulator’s search box will find no record and reasonably conclude the site is unlicensed, when in fact it is licensed under a different number.
There is a second entry worth knowing about. The register also lists licence 9-2-1-09658 in Mpumalanga under the name Betway/Jackpot City, at a shop address in Ogies. That row names two brands at once, so it cannot be attributed to Betway alone, and a retail shop licence is not the same thing as the licence behind the website. We mention it because you will find it if you go looking, not because it tells you anything about the online product.
How to check this yourself: open the National Gambling Board’s verified operators page, search for the licence number rather than the brand name, and confirm the company name that comes back matches the one in the site’s own footer.
